How Can Essential Oils Help With Emotions?
Essential Oils
Essential oils are highly concentrated plant extracts that contain aromatic compounds. These compounds can interact with the limbic system, which is the part of the brain responsible for emotions, memory, and behavior. While the exact mechanisms are not fully understood, there are a few ways in which essential oils can impact emotions:
- Inhalation: When you inhale essential oils, the scent molecules stimulate the olfactory system, which includes the nose and the brain’s olfactory bulb. This can trigger the limbic system and influence emotions, mood, and memory. Certain scents have been found to promote relaxation (such as lavender and chamomile) or uplift mood (such as citrus oils like lemon or bergamot).
- Absorption: Essential oils can be absorbed through the skin when applied topically. Some compounds may enter the bloodstream and reach the limbic system, potentially influencing emotional well-being. Additionally, massage or self-application of oils can promote relaxation and relieve stress, which can positively impact emotions.
- Personal associations: Our brains often associate specific scents with past experiences and emotions. For example, the smell of freshly baked cookies might evoke feelings of comfort and joy. Similarly, if you have positive associations with a particular essential oil, such as using it during a relaxing bath, it may help you recreate those emotions when using the oil again.
It’s important to note that while essential oils may have a positive impact on emotions for some people, the effects can vary from person to person. Responses to scents are subjective and influenced by personal preferences, memories, and individual chemistry. It’s always a good idea to choose high-quality essential oils such as doTERRA, use them safely and in moderation, and consult a healthcare professional if you have any specific concerns or health conditions.
The same way the oils thrive in nature is the same way they affect our bodies. For instance, the tree oils are very grounding. Other oils come from parts of the plants where they protect themselves, and so therefore protect us, like tea tree oil. The floral oils are beautiful and so they are calming for us.
Our organs all have smell receptor sites on them so literally when we smell an essential oil it travels through our body to our organs as well as to our brain.
What Is An Essential Emotions Session?
An Essential Emotions Session is a powerful but gentle process where we use a breakthrough sheet and work through your issue, be it a body issue, an emotion you are struggling with, or a pull towards an essential oil.
Using the Essential Emotions book I work together with you to understand more about your issue, where it stems from, and work together with the essential oil synergistically so your usual emotional response is interrupted and new neural pathways are created.
Of note is that you can do this process even when you have no oils. The oils are called in energetically and work at transforming stuck emotional patterns. Then the person can acquire the oils after the session if they choose to anchor these changes.
When you experience this session for yourself you create such a new relationship with essential oils, and start to understand that they are far more than just lovely smells.
Everyone who I have worked with have had profound shifts using this process, its such a subtle process but it moves energy in a powerful way.
I have overcome PTSD and I liken this essential emotions session to that healing process I experienced.
As I am a coach and not a therapist I do not work with people who have deep psychological trauma.
You can find the essential emotions session here.
