“I Wish I Was Psychic Like You”
“Intuition is neither the ability to engage prophesy nor a means of avoiding financial loss or painful relationships. It is actually the ability to use energy data to make decisions in the present moment.” Carolyn Myss.
A few weeks ago I was having a massage, I was lying on the table and the massage therapist was digging into my neck, getting those knots out.
I’d only been to see her once before and we were doing that social dance you do, when you’re lying there naked under a towel, having someone you don’t know massaging you. She asked me what I did for a job and I said I was a psychic/healer.
Schwing!!! Her energy perked right up and she said, “I wish I was psychic like you”.
I said “You are, look at how you just know from touching my neck where you need to work deeper.” Something she took for granted having been doing massage for years.
The Myth of Being Extraordinary
People’s reaction to me when I say I’m a psychic can range from fear, “oh man she knows what I’m thinking” to one of attributing me with magical abilities, “Can you give me this weeks winning lotto numbers?”
Then there’s the people that think that because I’ve honed being a psychic then I must have my act together in my life and everything goes well, and if it doesn’t then I can “see” my way out of it.
Not so.
I have lessons as well in life and because I’m emotionally involved in my life, I can’t always see the wood for the trees.
Enough About Me, Let’s Talk About You, What You Think Of Me?
So you want to be psychic like me?
Being psychic is just another way of saying you’ve honed your intuition to notice the small nuances in energy.
You do it.
We all do it.
A mother knows the difference in cries her baby has. Whether it be that her baby is tired, hungry or needs changing.
There are also subtle cues we get from body language. Someone walking along with shoulders slumped forward probably has the weight of the world upon them, and someone walking along who has a spring in their step is confident and feeling go-get-em.
You Always Had It, My Dear – Glinda the Good Witch
You don’t need Dorothy’s pair of ruby red slippers, or a crystal ball, a pendulum or a set of tarot cards. You just need to tune into your energy changes. These external tools are just an object of focus, but they are only prompting your focus within.
Deal ‘Em Up
Let’s try a simple fun experiment to give you an example of what I mean. Take a deck of cards and place them face down on the table. Take the top card, not looking at it and place it on it’s own face down on the table. Take a few deep slow breathes, centering yourself. Now hold your hand over the card, with a few inches gap in between.
What do you notice? Do you feel anything in your body, see anything in your mind’s eye? Hear anything?
Is it red or black?
Check what colour suit it is and then move onto the next. Over time you may find a pattern in what you feel, perhaps a warmth in the red suit and no warmth in the black suit. Or you have a flash in your mind.
I’m Not Sensing Anything
Our minds are very powerful and can dismiss what information we’re receiving and shut our perception down really fast.
There’s a number of reasons why this happens, we don’t want to be wrong, or we’ve been ridiculed in some way before about having an opinion.
Let’s Play Make Believe
One way around that critical inner voice is to make it up. Your imagination is in the same area of the brain as your intuition and so making it up bypasses your inner censor.
Just make it up. There’s a very high possibility you will be spot on.
A Face Is Worth A Thousand Words
Another great experiment you can try is to have someone else find you photos of a person, they withhold this persons name and the story of their lives.
Taking a few deep breaths, focus on this person’s photo, and see what impressions come to you. Keep your mind on your senses, as you did before with the cards.
Dare to be wrong.
Make it up.
Give it a go.
Practice Practice Practice
As Woody Allen said, “Eighty per cent of success is showing up”. And I have just shown up in this area lots of time.
You have an innate ability to be guided by your intuition in any situation, it’s just a matter of being aware of it.
How do you notice your intuition?
